Rui Campos é dono da rede Livraria da Travessa, que atualmente tem sete unidades no Rio de Janeiro e uma loja virtual. Em 1965, iniciou suas atividade com a livraria Muro, em Ipanema, que firmou-se como lugar de encontro, discussão, literatura e resistência ao regime militar. Em 1983, a Muro deu lugar à Dazibao que, mais tarde, abriu filial na Travessa do Ouvidor, no Centro, tornando-se uma das principais importadoras e distribuidoras de livros do Rio. O endereço sugeriu o novo nome – Livraria da Travessa – já em meados dos anos 90. O Centro receberia mais uma filial, na Av. Rio Branco e, em Ipanema, origem de tudo, foram abertas duas, permanecendo aquela inaugurada em 2002. Em 2006, chegou a vez do Leblon. Em 2008, da Barra.

“Eu acho a gratuidade uma maravilha. O grátis é uma coisa maravilhosa: feijão, moradia, educação, tudo grátis é melhor, mas é preciso que haja um mercado. Não funciona se não tiver um mercado. E o mercado não pode ser grátis. Quando se fala mercado, isso inclui inclusive os autores.”
“Hoje, o livro como conteúdo de transmissão de ideias e etc. está muito vivo, e o resultado que você vê está acontecendo muito: livrarias como espaços-referência nas cidades, esta coisa de livrarias com café, com auditório, com eventos”.
“O produtor cultural, eu acho, é esta pessoa que consegue, que tem o talento, a capacidade empreendedora de perceber que alguma coisa tem uma relevância para a população. E ele consegue pensar nisto como um negócio, no bom sentido. Ele consegue botar de pé uma coisa que vai se sustentar e que vai levar um resultado interessante.”
